IDF ARMOR SERIES No 30: MERKAVA MK 4 IN IDF SERVICE - PART 4

The Merkava (Chariot) Mk.4 and Mk.4M tanks are considered Israel Defense Force’s (IDF) most significant Main Battle Tank (MBT). The Mk. 4 is the latest generation in the IDF Armored Corps tank fleet, with its large variety of improvements such as the new water cooled 1500 HP Diesel engine, new armor suite on the turret and hull, and a new Fire Control System (FCS). The Mk. 4 is fitted with a 120 mm smooth bore main gun, and has two 7.62mm MAG machine guns, a .50 Cal heavy machine gun mounted on the gun mantlet, a 60mm internal mortar and 12 smoke grenade individual launchers.
