Without Cavalry: Battle of Marathon (490 BC)

The present study attempts to recreate the conditions and the events of the Battle of Marathon based on the work of Herodotus and later historians. The aim is to provide, to the extent that a broader picture of both Hellenic and Persian worlds during the Archaic Age by presenting the historical, political, social and military attributes of each. The actual battle is almost exclusively narrated from a military standpoint, focusing on issues which are not always examined by historical studies.
